Spec E46 is NASA's spec racing class for the BMW E46 330i. The class uses a tightly controlled ruleset to ensure close competition: stock M54 engine, specified suspension components, spec brake pads, and controlled tire choices. The result is door-to-door racing where driver skill is the primary differentiator. The E46 330i is an excellent race car because the M54 engine is reliable, the chassis is balanced, and the parts are affordable. Spec E46 has grown rapidly as a class because it offers legitimate BMW racing at a fraction of the cost of Spec E46 M3 (which uses the more expensive S54 engine). Building a competitive Spec E46 requires careful attention to the rulebook, proper cage fabrication, and thorough mechanical preparation.
