A designated pit lane area where cars can stop during a session for quick adjustments or to address minor issues without leaving the track entirely. It is considered a live area, so caution is required.
The XX Instructor Handbook notes that "safest passing is done in Pit Lane" — the pit lane serves as both an overtaking zone for very slow cars and a service area. During morning warm-ups, "vehicles will be fully prepped and Teched each day — technicians will confirm the following: wheels torqued, tire pressures, measurement of brake pad and tire depths, oil and brake fluids checked, windshields cleaned." The hot pit is distinct from the paddock in that it connects directly to the live track surface, so pit lane speed limits (typically 25-35 mph depending on the venue) are strictly enforced. Entry and exit require checking mirrors carefully as the speed differential between pit lane traffic and on-track cars can be significant.
